Ember Taylor

Ember Taylor comes to BPC preschool as a happy second career working with children.  Ember was born in Florida but moved to Virginia at a young age and grew up in the Springfield area.  She went to Virginia Tech for her undergraduate degrees in English and Theatre and earned her MFA in Theatre Education at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she also taught theatre and speech classes. Her first position out of graduate school was at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, DC, working all around the DMV with children as part of the company’s Education department. Working with theatre and children is at the core of her teaching.

For the last 19 years, Ember returned to Fairfax County to work with the School Age Childcare Program, and taught in many different FCPS schools and summer programs, finishing her work there as a Center Supervisor at the Navy Elementary SACC program before deciding to retire to focus more on her family (husband Dillon and two children Katie and Ben and their little pack of puppies including their very Scottish dog, a Carin Terrier named Robin, who looks like Toto).

Ember loves to read to children and is excited to return to her former church community to help the school and their youngest members grow and find their own voices.  Her favorite children’s book as a child was The Velveteen Rabbit, but some new favorites to read out loud are The Three Ninja Pigs, The Adventures of Rock, Paper, Scissors, & Blueberry Girl. Something special about Ember is that she loves leading her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, camping in her family’s RV at the beach, and often travels to Celtic/Scottish Highland Games—where her two children compete in Highland dance (jumping over swords in kilts) as a dance mom.
